For many people, acne has become a resident on their skin. Some may have severe acne while for those luck others, it only comes in mild forms wherein the presence of acne is seasonal and sometimes it would only come out when a person is stressed.

But at the end of it all, when the acne disappears, there is another problem that a person is facing and this is the scars that these acne leaves behind.

Why are there acne scars?

Acne is an inflammatory type of skin disease that when it starts to disappear, it would leave temporary dark spots in the form of scars. These types of scars would normally start to decrease in shade after a month or two and is just temporary.

But if you have tried to prick and pop pimples during its course of development then you will really have a bad time with the scar that it will leave afterwards.

The appearance of acne scars would be atrophic and most of them are shallow, they are usually boxcar in shape and they could be ice pick in shape which could be narrower but deeper.

Are there factors that could worsen the presence of acne scars?

Sometimes, acne scars are self-limiting and can disappear in a few moments time.

But there are controllable factors that could aggravate its presence and these are:

  • Sun

Going out in the sun can cause these acne scars to darken more in color.

Therefore it is important that if a person is trying to get rid of his or her acne scars, he or she might always use sunscreen or use sun protection such as the umbrella to prevent the sun’s rays from penetrating the skin especially the acne scar.

  • Picking and Squeezing

As mentioned earlier, if one is trying to pick and pop her acne, it wouldn’t be a shock if a scar would develop after it’s healing.

Therefore it is best advised that one must just let the natural course of acne take its place so that no consequences might take place in the future such as acne scarring.

What can help remove or minimize the presence of acne scars?

If there are factors that could increase the appearance of acne scars, there are also those that can help treat it and these are the following:

  • Cortisone and Fade Creams

These topical medications can be acquired over the counter in pharmacies but it is still best to consult your dermatologist to which type and concentration that one must use in order for your acne scars to get better.

This type of medication comes in two ways since the cortisone is to reduce the inflammation of the acne while the fade cream is to lighten its color.

  • Laser Treatment

laser treatmentIn severe cases, laser treatment would be the last resort for the presence of these acne scars. With this type of treatment, nothing could go wrong and it also has lesser side effects.

However, this procedure is quite expensive thus you really have to save money for this if you wish to undergo this kind of treatment.

Acne is one of the reasons that can cause stress among the teenagers. Acne (or also known as pimples) usually appears on the skin of those people who have high hormonal imbalance or secretions.

Therefore, the group of people most prone to this is the teenagers since during their adolescent years, the hormonal secretions in their body are everywhere thus this can trigger the presence of acne.

Why does acne appear?

The presence of acne can actually be highly attributed to the problem with the skin pores. These skin pores can sometimes be clogged by either dirt, bacteria or dead skin cells that may eventually lead to redness and pus formation and this would be then your acne.

Thus it is always best to keep your skin always clean and free from other invaders so that acne could not have the chance to grow.

Another reason for the presence of acne would be due to hormonal imbalance. Thus teenagers and those women who are near their period are the ones who are most prone to develop acne.

Third reason would be genetic thus if you can see (or have known) that your mother or father had history of severe pimples in their past, you no longer have to worry if you also have one because they might have given the acne genes to you.

The best thing that you can do now is to control the appearance of acne.

Can acne be treated?

The good thing is that acne can be easily treated.

Below are the ways in which a person could treat the appearance of acne on his or her skin:

  • Cleansing and Exfoliating

skin cleansingSkin cleansing is the most important step in treating and controlling acne since dirt is one of the major reasons why acne forms.

By cleaning your face twice a day, you get to remove the dirt that may clog the pores and through exfoliating, one can remove the dead skin cells that may also clog the pores.

One might not be able to forget to clean their faces in the morning but when night time comes, no matter how tired you are, you must not forget to clean your face to avoid the appearance of acne.

  • Oil-Free Cosmetics

Some people notice that even if they have cleansed and exfoliated their faces properly already, there are still times wherein the acne is still there.

The problem may be attributed to the cosmetic products that you use. Make sure that the cosmetic products that you use are oil-free since the presence of oil can also clog the pores and induce acne.

  • Medications

If you have done every single thing that would help control or minimize the pimples and it still does not go away, then probably it’s time for you to visit your dermatologist so that he or she can recommend you medications that may help in controlling the presence of acne.

These medications are usually either topical or oral antibiotics that could help in minimizing the appearance and swelling of acne.
