For many people, acne has become a resident on their skin. Some may have severe acne while for those luck others, it only comes in mild forms wherein the presence of acne is seasonal and sometimes it would only come out when a person is stressed.

But at the end of it all, when the acne disappears, there is another problem that a person is facing and this is the scars that these acne leaves behind.

Why are there acne scars?

Acne is an inflammatory type of skin disease that when it starts to disappear, it would leave temporary dark spots in the form of scars. These types of scars would normally start to decrease in shade after a month or two and is just temporary.

But if you have tried to prick and pop pimples during its course of development then you will really have a bad time with the scar that it will leave afterwards.

The appearance of acne scars would be atrophic and most of them are shallow, they are usually boxcar in shape and they could be ice pick in shape which could be narrower but deeper.

Are there factors that could worsen the presence of acne scars?

Sometimes, acne scars are self-limiting and can disappear in a few moments time.

But there are controllable factors that could aggravate its presence and these are:

  • Sun

Going out in the sun can cause these acne scars to darken more in color.

Therefore it is important that if a person is trying to get rid of his or her acne scars, he or she might always use sunscreen or use sun protection such as the umbrella to prevent the sun’s rays from penetrating the skin especially the acne scar.

  • Picking and Squeezing

As mentioned earlier, if one is trying to pick and pop her acne, it wouldn’t be a shock if a scar would develop after it’s healing.

Therefore it is best advised that one must just let the natural course of acne take its place so that no consequences might take place in the future such as acne scarring.

What can help remove or minimize the presence of acne scars?

If there are factors that could increase the appearance of acne scars, there are also those that can help treat it and these are the following:

  • Cortisone and Fade Creams

These topical medications can be acquired over the counter in pharmacies but it is still best to consult your dermatologist to which type and concentration that one must use in order for your acne scars to get better.

This type of medication comes in two ways since the cortisone is to reduce the inflammation of the acne while the fade cream is to lighten its color.

  • Laser Treatment

laser treatmentIn severe cases, laser treatment would be the last resort for the presence of these acne scars. With this type of treatment, nothing could go wrong and it also has lesser side effects.

However, this procedure is quite expensive thus you really have to save money for this if you wish to undergo this kind of treatment.
